Almost every week, someone sits down across from me at my chamber in Malibag and tells me the same story before we ever open their birth chart. They went to someone else first. They paid more than they meant to. They were told something frightening about their future — a curse, a shadow, a marriage that would fail — and then told that for a further sum, it could be lifted.
By the time they reach me, the money is gone and so is most of their trust.
So I want to write plainly about something I don’t think enough of us in this profession are willing to say out loud: the most useful thing an honest astrologer in Dhaka can do for you is help you tell the difference between this work done seriously and this work done as a confidence trick.
This is not an attack on anyone in particular. There are people practising in this city with real learning and real discipline, and I have learned from some of them. But the barrier to calling yourself an astrologer is nothing at all. A Facebook page and a phone number is the whole cost of entry. That is why you need a way to judge for yourself.
Here is how I would tell you to do it, if you were my brother or my sister asking.
Seven signs you are talking to someone genuine
1. They ask for your exact birth time — and they explain why
A birth chart is a map of the sky at one specific moment. Not the day. The moment. An hour’s difference moves the ascendant and shifts the entire house structure, which changes almost everything that can be said about career, marriage and timing.
Anyone who takes your date of birth alone and starts making confident, specific predictions about your life is either not using a chart at all, or is using one they know to be unreliable. A genuine practitioner will ask for the date, the time as precisely as you can get it, and the place — and if your time is uncertain, they will tell you honestly that this limits what can be read, rather than pretending it doesn’t matter.
If you don’t know your birth time, look at your hospital record, your birth certificate, or ask the oldest relative who was present. Bring whatever you have. Uncertainty is workable. Pretending there is no uncertainty is not.
2. They tell you what astrology cannot do
This is the clearest single test I know.
Astrology is a language for understanding pattern, timing and disposition. It is not a medical diagnosis. It is not a legal opinion. It is not a guarantee about the future, and it cannot make a specific person love you.
An honest astrologer will say some version of this out loud, unprompted, early. Someone who lets you believe they have unlimited power over your life is not being humble about their craft — they are setting up the sale.
3. Their fee is stated before you sit down
You should know what a consultation costs before you walk in, the same way you would with a doctor or a lawyer. A fixed fee, stated in advance, for a stated length of time.
What you should not encounter is a fee that grows during the session. If the price of the consultation changes once you are emotionally invested — because your case turned out to be “more serious,” because “extra work” is now required — that is not astrology. That is a technique, and it is a very old one.
4. There is a real address you can walk into
I keep a chamber at Hosaf Shopping Complex, Malibag Mour, and I think that matters more than it might seem.
A practitioner with a physical place of work in Dhaka has something at stake. They can be found. They can be asked to account for what they said. Someone who exists only as a WhatsApp number and a boosted Facebook post can disappear the moment you complain, and many do.
Online consultation is perfectly legitimate — I do a great deal of it, and for people outside Dhaka it is often the only option. But there should still be a verifiable person and a verifiable place behind it.
5. They do not sell fear
Watch carefully for the shape of the conversation. Does it start with something alarming and end with something for sale?
The pattern is consistent: a frightening diagnosis, delivered with certainty, followed by an expensive remedy that only that person can supply. A stone that must be bought today, from them. A ritual that must be performed immediately, in cash, which you will not be permitted to witness.
Fear makes people compliant and stops them asking ordinary questions. Any practitioner who reaches for it first should lose your confidence entirely.
6. You leave with something you can actually do
A good consultation should leave you clearer than you arrived. Not lighter in the wallet and heavier in the mind.
You should come away understanding which period of your life you are currently in, what that period tends to support and what it tends to resist, and where your own effort is best spent over the coming months. Practical, specific, and yours to act on — not dependent on returning to the astrologer every few weeks.
If the only conclusion offered is “come back next month and pay again,” you have learned something about the practitioner rather than about yourself.
7. Their reviews read like real people
Look at their Google reviews, not the testimonials printed on their own website. Anyone can write a testimonial about themselves.
Real reviews are specific and slightly untidy. They mention what the person came in for, how long it took, sometimes a small complaint alongside the praise. Fake ones are uniformly glowing, oddly similar in phrasing, and often carry names that don’t belong to this city at all.
Red flags — walk away, calmly and immediately
Some things should end the conversation on the spot:
- “One hundred percent guaranteed solution.” Nobody can guarantee an outcome in your life. Nobody.
- Escalating payments. The problem keeps turning out to be worse, and each revelation costs more. This is the single most common way people are cheated in this field.
- Being told to stop medical treatment. No astrologer has any business advising you about medication, surgery, or a doctor’s instructions. If you are unwell, see a physician. Astrology sits alongside medicine; it does not replace it.
- Pressure to buy an expensive stone on the spot, from them, today, with no time to think and no way to verify what it is. A gemstone recommendation should come with a reason you understand, and you should be free to buy it wherever you like.
- Large cash payments for a ritual you never see performed. If you are paying for a puja, you should be able to be present at it.
- Any advice to leave a marriage, cut off a family member, or make an irreversible financial decision on the strength of a single reading. A chart is information. The decision remains yours, and it deserves more than one hour of anybody’s opinion.
- Refusal to let you record the session or take notes. There is no legitimate reason to object.
Questions worth asking before you book
You are allowed to interview someone before you give them your money and your family’s private business. I would ask:
- What do you need from me for the reading, and what happens if my birth time is uncertain?
- What does the consultation cost, and how long does it last?
- Is the fee final, or are there things that would cost extra?
- What sort of questions do you find you can answer well, and what sort do you prefer not to take?
- Can I visit you in person?
The fifth question is quietly the most revealing. So is the fourth — a practitioner who claims every question is equally answerable is not describing a real practice.
What to bring to your first consultation
If you decide to come, bring these:
- Your date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth. Time is the one people forget, and the one that matters most.
- The same details for anyone else the reading concerns — a spouse, a child, a business partner.
- Two or three specific questions, written down. “Will I be happy?” is difficult to work with. “I have been offered a job in another city and must answer by December — how does this period look for a change of that kind?” is something a chart can genuinely speak to.
- A notebook. You will be given more than you can hold in your head, and you will want it again in six months.
What an honest reading is actually for
I will finish where I would rather have started.
Astrology, done properly, is not a machine for removing uncertainty from your life. It is a way of reading the season you are standing in — recognising when conditions are favourable and effort compounds, and when they are not and patience serves you better. It offers perspective, timing and self-knowledge. It does not offer control, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
The people who benefit most from what I do are not the ones looking for a miracle. They are the ones facing a real decision who want to understand their own tendencies and their own timing more clearly before they make it.
If that is what you are looking for, you will find good practitioners in this city. Use the tests above, take your time, and trust the one who is willing to tell you the limits of what they know.
